PINE CREST PHASE II RENOVATIONS AND HVAC UPGRADES
SCEC completed renovations and mechanical upgrades at three buildings: the Huizenga Family Science Center, Stacy Gymnasium, and the Long Course Pool. The complex upgrades were designed to tie these existing buildings and systems to the new chilled water loop installed by SCEC as part of the Pine Crest Central Chiller Plant project.
To minimize disruption to student activities on a campus occupied year-round, SCEC worked at night and on weekends. At the Science Center, new rooftop HVAC units were installed on the third-floor roof deck, requiring new roof curbs and chilled water piping. All of the new chilled water piping was installed inside existing ceilings or chases, which required extensive scaffolding within the existing building cavity where very little structural support was available. Custom-designed scaffolding systems were installed with minimal displacement of existing building finishes.
